Students, Community Members Help Library of Congress with ‘Transcribe-A-Thon’ THURSDAY

Posted

WHO: Several dozen students and community members, joined by Bucks County Community College Library staff.

WHAT: Volunteer for a two-hour “transcribe-a-thon,” transcribing handwritten documents from our country’s beginnings into typed text for the Library of Congress to make them readable and accessible for generations to
come. Part of America 250 celebrations across the nation. Participants will receive 3-D printed “quill pens” from the BCCC Library as a thank-you gift.

DETAILS: Volunteers will be transcribing documents from “The American  Revolution in Context” from the Library of Congress’s “By the People” project. (https://crowd.loc.gov/topics/american-revolution/)
These materials – from diaries and cookbooks, to letters and store ledgers – provide context for understanding colonial America through the Revolution to the early Republic. Transcribing these pages helps you learn more about everyday life for people living through America’s
