Celebrate spring and America250PA at Free Library of Northampton Township

Posted

Excitement is in the air as our nation’s sesquicentennial celebrations commence. Hosting monthly programs as part of America250PA, the library focuses these programs on local history. All programs require registration. Please join us:

  • On Saturday, April 18 at 1 pm, our America250PA series presents the docudrama film “The Fries Rebellion,”  based on the actual events in Lehigh County when German veterans of the War of Independence, along with farmers, perceived injustice in the newly formed federal government.
  • Many of our ancestors served in the military and this aspect can be a genealogical treasure trove.  Learn how to research military records on Thursday, April 23 at 6 pm.
  • Join Amy Hollander of Bucks County Parks & Recreation on Saturday, April 25 at 1 pm as she expounds upon the “Bucks County Committee of Observation,” the pre-revolutionary executive/legislative body of Bucks County.  This colonial body’s duties included recruiting local militia and much more. Learn about the power of this body and about one of its distinguished members, Henry Wynkoop of Northampton Township.
  • Few realize the early Eastern Pennsylvania region was important to growing cities in terms of mining products.  On Saturday, May 2 at 1 pm, Martha Capwell-Fox of the Delaware Canal Historic Site will focus on this local mining.

Although not part of the America250PA series, the following programs strive to also inform and entertain (registration is required):

  • Some iconic places in our city of Brotherly Love are gone, but they live on in Rick Spector’s program “A Trip to Lost Philadelphia”.  Enjoy an afternoon of nostalgia on Saturday, April 11 at 1 pm.
  • As part of our Cancer Awareness series, “Men’s Health” is Katerina Kotsada’s (Fox Chase Cancer Center) focus on Monday, April 27 at 6 pm.
