Phillies Cristopher Sánchez to start All-Star Game in Philadelphia

The Phillies All-Star starter gets the nod to start for the National League in his home park

Philadelphia Phillies left-handed starting pitcher Cristopher Sánchez received great news Sunday afternoon. Per reports from Jon Heyman of The New York Post, Sánchez was named the National League All-Star team's starting pitcher for Tuesday night's contest in Philadelphia.

The two-time All-Star has been stellar again in 2026 after finishing second in NL Cy Young voting a season ago. Sánchez has a record of 11-4, nearly matching his win total for all of 2025 already. His ERA is 2.62, good for No. 9 in the major leagues. He is tied for the MLB lead with a complete game shutout and 20 starts overall.

Sánchez also leads the majors with a 5.4 bWAR after leading the league in that category in 2025. That number is influenced by the numbers above, but his strikeout count of 114 is the third-highest in the league.

Another honor in an already special season for Sánchez, who recorded the longest consecutive scoreless innings streak in franchise history with 50 2/3 innings. It is the fifth-longest single-season streak since 1893 (when the mound moved to its current distance) and the longest by any left-handed pitcher in the history of MLB.

Philadelphia is sending six total All-Stars to the game. Alongside Sánchez, Brandon Marsh is getting a starting spot in the outfield, and Kyle Schwarber is the presumed starter at designated hitter after Shohei Ohtani had to withdraw from the game. Other Phillies All-Stars include Jhoan Duran, Bryce Harper and Jesús Luzardo.

Harper and Schwarber are participating in the Home Run Derby tomorrow night, and fans hope to see all six of the hometown All-Stars in action on Tuesday.
