After Monday’s Flyers-Capitals preseason game, the NHL announced that Capitals forward Andrew Cristall was fined the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement for cross-checking Flyers defenseman Hunter McDonald.
Cristall will be fined $2,250.86, and the money will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
At the 12:50 mark of the second period in Hershey, Pa., on September 21st, Cristall cross-checked McDonald. Cristall was initially assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for cross-checking; the league announced further discipline on Tuesday.
McDonald ended the night with one assist, coming in the second period on Cole Knuble’s game-tying goal. Cristall did not record any points, but finished the game with 15 penalty minutes — five for cross-checking and 10 for a game misconduct.
The Flyers lost the game 5-2, but McDonald returned to the active lineup for Tuesday's 5-1 loss to Boston.
The Flyers will next be in action against the Bruins on Thursday night in preseason play.
