Former Philadelphia Flyers forward Jori Lehterä announced today that his time with HIFK, the professional Ice Hockey team in Finland, has ended.
In a translated message shared on Instagram, he said:
"I would like to thank the entire IFK family—my teammates, the coaching staff, the front office, and, of course, the fans—for these past few years. It has been wonderful having IFK play such a big part in my and my family's lives during this time. My journey with IFK has now come to an end. After much reflection, I’ve decided to step away, as I feel I need a "time-out" right now. I had considered hanging up my skates for good, but to be honest, I can’t promise that 100% just yet—my mind might change, as it often does. For now, I’m going to take it easy and get back to everyday family life!
"Wishing IFK the best of luck for the rest of the season. I’ll be rooting for the team and definitely following the action. Härkönen is leading the way!"
Lehterä played in 89 games over two seasons with Philadelphia from 2017-2019, joining the team through the trade that sent Brayden Schenn to St. Louis. The defenseman scored 11 points as a Flyer in that time. The Fin played in 307 total NHL games, scoring 111 points and also adding a bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics to his resume.
