Turning 65 this summer? Now is a good time to learn Medicare

Posted

After a long, cold winter, many people are starting to look ahead to spring and summer. Trips, family time, and getting back outside often take priority, especially after a season of staying in. For anyone turning 65 this summer, Medicare is another important milestone that is easier to handle when it is not left until the last minute.

We often meet people who tell us they spent more time planning a vacation than learning about Medicare. That is understandable. Medicare plans can feel unfamiliar and complicated, and most people do not know where to begin. The reality is that learning the basics early can remove a lot of stress later.

I am John Freitag, and my wife Stephanie and I have grown Freitag Family Insurance Agency here in Trevose. We work with neighbors across Bucks County, helping them understand how Medicare works and what steps are involved before their coverage begins. One of the biggest differences we see is between people who start learning a few months ahead and those who wait until their birthday month. Early planning gives you time to ask questions, compare options, and understand important deadlines.

To support early education, we host free monthly Medicare Made Simple workshops at the Sarah Mitchell Community Center, 1500 Desire Avenue. These sessions are designed for people turning 65 in the next three to six months and are focused on Medicare basics. We explain the different parts of Medicare, review common mistakes, and walk through what decisions actually need to be made and when. The goal is simple; to help people feel informed and prepared.

Our next workshop will be held Tuesday, March 24 at 6:30 pm, and is open to the public at no cost.

Taking care of Medicare ahead of time can make the rest of your year easier. With a little preparation now, you can focus on enjoying the warmer months ahead without feeling rushed or uncertain about your coverage.
