Historic Summerseat, located at 130 Legion Ave. in the heart of Morrisville Borough, is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the historic building and grounds named Summerseat. The mission of the organization is preservation, education, and maintaining a museum of the Colonial and Revolutionary History of the site and of the Borough of Morrisville.
In 2025 Historic Summerseat applied for and received two grants, The Bucks County Tourism Grant, which will help support some of the big events coming up in May through the beginning of June, and a Bucks 250PA Grant to help provide funding for programs celebrating the 250th Birthday of the USA. Summerseat 250 is under the chairpersonship of Historic Summerseat board member, Chris Zawodniak. In addition to Chris, events are being made possible with a great deal of planning and implementation by his wife, Margaret and daughter, Becca, along with the rest of the Historic Summerseat Board and volunteer members.
Recently Historic Summerseat held a poster contest for third through fifth graders in the Morrisville School District, and 152 students participated. The artwork was imaginative, delightful, and quite artistic. The posters were judged and prizes were awarded to the winning entries. Several members of the Historic Summerseat Board including Vice President Sam Davis, who is renowned for his reenactment of General George Washington, held an assembly at the Morrisville High School auditorium for grades kindergarten through fifth. They introduced information about the 250th celebration, the roles of children during the Revolutionary War, some of the history of Summerseat, and the important role of events that occurred in what is now the Borough of Morrisville, but at the time of the American Revolution was known as Colvin’s Ferry. Historic Summerseat distributed a small 250th gift to district students, announced the poster contest winners, and distributed the contest prizes. It was a great treat for all in attendance, including the members of Historic Summerseat.
Coming up in April more events are planned. The open house day is Saturday, April 4 and there will be a special showcasing of the types of toys played with by colonial children.
