Brandon Marsh continues bid for All-Star nomination in 8-2 victory

One of the best stories in Major League Baseball has been the rise of Brandon Marsh. He continued his hot streak with another home run on Tuesday night.

The baseball was flying out of the ballpark early and often for the Philadelphia Phillies in an 8-2 win over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillies secured their 40th win of the season, the second National League (N.L.) East club to break that threshold in 2026.

Philly used small ball to generate three runs in the first inning to surge to a 3-0 advantage, including a pair of RBIs on a triple from Bryson Stott. In the second inning, Brandon Marsh and Alec Bohm each swatted two-run home runs to push the lead to 7-0.

Marsh was inserted into the lead-off spot for the contest and continued his strong play, assisting his case to capture one of three starting spots in the N.L. outfield at the 2026 All-Star Game in less than a month.

Kyle Schwarber smashed his league-leading 25th home run in the fourth inning to add one more crooked number to the scoreboard for the home squad. Schwarber owns a significant advantage over his closest N.L. competitor, Atlanta’s Matt Olson, with 20 home runs.

Houston’s Yordan Alvarez (24) and Minnesota’s Byron Buxton (23) are the closest competition in homers around the majors.

That was more than enough run support for Phillies starter Jesus Luzardo to handle his business on Tuesday night. He was untouchable through the first four innings before Javier Sanoja broke up his no-hit bid in the fifth inning. Miami loaded the bases in the frame, but Luzardo wiggled out of the jam without any damage allowed.

Marlins outfielder Esteury Ruiz broke up the shutout with a two-run home run in the seventh inning to trim the lead to 7-2, but that was all of the offense Miami could muster off Phillies pitching on the night. Luzardo was finished after seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits with nine strikeouts. He tossed 106 pitches to record his sixth win of the season. Relievers Tanner Banks and Max Lazar stepped in to shut down the Marlins in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.

Philadelphia and Miami wrap up the series tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 pm ET with Philly seeking a three-game sweep. Rookie Andrew Painter battles Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara in the final game of a three-game set.
