The Philadelphia Phillies added a pair of relievers in San Francisco Giants right-hander Caleb Killian and New York Mets left-hander Brooks Raley in hopes to bolster a struggling bullpen.

Killian’s addition was confirmed by The Athletic’s Jayson Stark. The 29-year-old owns a 4.26 ERA in 45 appearances this season with 53 strikeouts to 20 walks in 44 ⅓ innings. Killian’s groundball percentage of 49.2% is in the 81st percentile which will play well in the back end of games for the Phillies.

His strikeout rate has also jumped significantly from 2024 where it was 15% compared to his 28% mark this season. Additionally, Killian has five years of control and was part of the trade that sent Luis Arraez to the Phillies.

Brooks Raley

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale confirmed the intradivision deal between the two NL East rivals. With the Mets selling, the Phillies added arguably the best left-handed reliever on the market in Raley.

The 38-year-old has been fantastic this season, posting a 1.96 ERA in 45 games this season. He is effective against both lefties and righties, but has been extremely tough against left-handed hitters holding them to a .184 average in his career.

Raley solidifies the left-handed role in Philadelphia’s bullpen with the struggles from Jose Alvarado and Tanner Banks this season.

The Phillies sent right-handed pitching prospect Luke Gabryish and outfield prospect John Spikerman, who was listed as #27 in the system per MLB Pipeline.
