Coming off another successful road series in Toronto, the Philadelphia Phillies had the benefit of an off day leading into a series with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Their first task of the weekend series would be trying to figure out Jacob Misiorowski, the fireball right-hander of the Brewers. "The Miz" is currently Cristopher Sanchez's top competition for the National League Cy Young Award.
If you missed the game, you missed one of the best pitching performances in a long time.
Misiorowski tossed a complete-game shutout against the Phillies offense. He allowed just one hit, a leadoff single by Kyle Schwarber to start the fourth inning.
Schwarber would be the only Philllie to reach base on Friday night.
The Miz faced the minimum, struck out 15 hitters and topped his fastball at 104.5 miles per hour several times throughout the game.
In an effort to ease Andrew Painter into Friday's game, the Phillies opted to use Tanner Banks as an opener.
Banks allowed a run in the first inning, eventually earning him the loss for his efforts.
Painter would enter in the second inning, allowing a run to score on a wild pitch to give the Brewers a 2-0 lead. This was more on J.T. Realmuto, who whiffed on blocking a ball in the dirt.
The Phillies' top pitching prospect would get through the next two innings scoreless, before trouble found him once more in the fifth.
After getting the first two outs to start the frame, Painter allowed a double, walk, and three run home run to Jake Bauers. With how dominant Misiorowski was, this signaled the end of the game for the Phillies
Painter finished with five innings pitched, five hits, five earned runs, three walks and three strikeouts. His earned run average sits at 6.43 for the season.
It was not all doom and gloom Friday night for the Phillies, as they had a rookie debut.
Gabriel Rincones Jr., who fans might remember from Spring Training 2025, made his Major League debut.
Filling in for an injured Adolis García, Rincones got the start in right field. He went 0-3 with two strikeouts, but he fit right in with the rest of his teammates in the Phillies lineup.
The plan for the Phillies is to use Rincones against right-handed starters.
