The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to terms with former Chicago Bulls guard Anfernee Simons on a two-year deal worth $12.3 million, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Simons, 27, is best known for his scoring ability, particularly as a three-point specialist. A career 38.1% three-point shooter, Simons adds a much-needed offensive dimension to the Sixers. After spending the first part of his career with the Portland Trail Blazers, Simons was traded to the Boston Celtics ahead of last season in the Jrue Holiday deal before later being dealt to the Chicago Bulls.
In 55 total games between Boston and Chicago, Simons averaged 14.3 points, shooting 38.5% from three on 6.9 attempts per game. As a shooter, Simons is versatile, capable of attacking off the catch, pulling up in transition and even manufacturing his own shot with an impressive step-back.
Trading McCain left the Sixers without one of their best perimeter shooters. Simons helps replace much of that production with a more experienced veteran.
Now in Philadelphia, Simons reunites with former teammate Jaylen Brown as a part of a quicker-than-expected retool effort by Sixers president of basketball operations Mike Gansey. Simons’ two-year deal includes a player option for the 2027-28 NBA season. The amount of the deal indicates that it will come from the remainder of the non-taxpayer mid-level exception used to sign Dean Wade. Originally thought to be used in the signing of Ariel Hukporti, the former Knicks center will likely be signed using the biannual exception instead.
