Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey will bring back his annual Friends & Family Weekend this summer, a three-day fundraising event benefiting the Tyrese Maxey Foundation and its community initiatives across Philadelphia.
The three-day event takes place Aug. 6-8, featuring a fundraising dinner, celebrity golf tournament and free youth basketball camp, with proceeds supporting the Tyrese Maxey Foundation's community programs.
The weekend begins at Vie on Thursday with the Night of Giving, which will be headlined by a live family game show-style competition with Maxey and special guests in addition to a cocktail mixer and dinner. The following day will be Maxey’s Celebrity Golf Tournament at Union League Torresdale. The event will feature more than 70 golfers, including Maxey, some of his Sixers teammates, and more special guests.
Finally, on Saturday, the weekend’s festivities will conclude with Maxey’s 1% Skills Camp, a free youth basketball camp hosting more than 250 attendees and taking place at William Penn Charter School. Maxey will be joined by local coaches as they lead local children (ages 7 to 12) in training drills and competitions, while handing out gear, backpacks and awards.
“Friends & Family Weekend means a lot to me,” said Maxey of the event. “It’s all about giving back and bringing people together to make a real impact in the community.”
Since being drafted by the Sixers in 2020, Maxey has remained active in community outreach efforts across Philadelphia. Between his annual Friends & Family Weekend and his yearly Thanksgiving Turkey Drive, Maxey continues to serve the community that has become a new home to him in Philadelphia while continuing to benefit his hometown community in Garland, Texas, and beyond.
"It's been great. Honestly, lots of supporters," Maxey said during last year’s Friends & Family Weekend. "I appreciate everybody who came out and supported. I appreciate all the sponsors, the volunteers, security, everybody. Man, it's been great. (The) community has really shown out, and I'm glad to be a part of it."
