Neshaminy Valley Music Theatre, Buck’s County’s award-winning community theatre, will present the original American fairy tale, “The Wizard of Oz,” on April 18, 19, 24, 25 and 26 at Neshaminy High School, 2001 Old Lincoln Highway, Langhorne. Performances are Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 3 and 8 pm, and Sundays at 3 pm. The production is directed and choreographed by four-time Barrymore Award nominee Stephen Casey and music directed by Pennsbury School District music teacher Matt South with a cast and production team of more than 50 Delaware Valley residents.
The stage musical of “The Wizard of Oz” is based on the beloved 1939 MGM film starring Judy Garland, which was based on L. Frank Baum’s popular series of books. The musical includes iconic songs like “Over the Rainbow,” “We’re Off to See the Wizard,” and “Ding Dong, the Witch is Dead” with added musical numbers such as “The Jitterbug” and song and dance scenes in the poppy field and Emerald City. Audiences are invited to travel down the Yellow Brick Road with Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion, as they meet Munchkins, Glinda, the Wicked Witch of the West, and, of course, the Wizard.
Since its founding in 1956, NVMT has produced an annual musical to raise funds for scholarships to Neshaminy High seniors who plan to study the arts in college – $177,000 in grants to more than 200 students to date.
The theatre has received national recognition for its annual productions including 32 nominations and six wins from the International Music & Entertainment Awards.
